IMPORTANT NOTICE: Mandatory Company Key Requirements for Ontario Businesses

December 5th, 2024

Ontario’s new Business Registry system (OBR) has introduced changes that will affect all businesses registered in the province.

As of February 1, 2025, Ontario businesses will be required to have a “company key” to access their OBR profile and to make business filings in the government business registry system.

This company key is a unique 9-digit numerical code that is associated with your business and serves as a password to grant you or your authorized professional representative access to your OBR profile.

Companies incorporated:

  1. prior to October 19, 2021 did not have a Company Key assigned to them and therefore you will now need to submit a request for a Company Key by completing the request form which can be accessed here.
  2. on or after October 19, 2021, should have already been issued a Company Key.

Our clients will require this company key to log-in themselves (or to permit Blackburn Lawyers to log in on their behalf) and submit any filings or effect any changes.

If you are one of our clients and have already been issued your company key, we would kindly ask that you provide us with a copy for our records.

Feel Free to call us if you have any questions.
